The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) will release its own maritime domain awareness(MDA)flights over crucial locations of the West Philippine Sea(WPS)to assert the nation’s territorial rights.
” This will be the Coast Guard airplane, and we’ll perform [an] MDA flight from Pangasinan to Zambales,” PCG representative Commodore Jay Tarriela stated at the Saturday News Forum.
Tarriela highlighted that these regular flights declare the Philippines’ special financial zone (EEZ).
The statement follows a Chinese military helicopter performed “harmful” maneuvers over Bajo de Masinloc.
The PCG is presently tracking the China Coast Guard (CCG) vessel 5303 80 nautical miles off Bolinao, Pangasinan.
The CCG vessels 3301 and 3105 were identified off Zambales.
“We are likewise straight challenging the vessels na nakikita natin, and in those circumstances na mayroon tayong makikita na CCG vessel, magde-deploy din tayo ng PCG vessel to straight challenge and to counter the existence of the CCG,” Tarriela stated.
(We are actively challenging these vessels, and whenever we spot CCG ships, we release PCG vessels to counter their existence.
The West Philippine Sea consists of the Luzon Sea, the Kalayaan Island Group, and Bajo de Masinloc.
In 2016, the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague ruled that China has no legal basis for its claims in the South China Sea.
In spite of the judgment, Beijing declines to acknowledge the choice and continues its activities in challenged waters. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
